The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth

Wordsworth says, "Little we see in Nature that is ours."Nature does not belong to us, so we do not have the right to do with it what we please. Wordsworth thinks this anyway. As I have said in my last blog post about Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem, God put us in charge of all living creatures. I believe that this pertains to nature as well, although I do not think that God's intention was for us to destroy his precious creations.

Worsworth goes on to say that we are all "out of tune" with nature. This is especially true. As I write this, I am inside on a beautiful day looking at fake plants used as decoration. We take nature for granted, knowing that it will always be there when we want to go to it. Nature can be rough. Without the constant air conditioning, or the electricity, many of us wouldn't know what to do. Even when the internet isn't working, people go crazy not knowing what else to do! It's a sad thing, knowing that we don't use nature nearly as much as we can.

At the end of the poem he says that he would rather be a pagan with outdated beliefs, than be out of tune with nature. I wish that more people were like this. I feel that technology is sort of an "evil." It takes us away from the real work we should be doing. Don't get me wrong...I am a huge user of technology. I think that it is extremely necessary especially in this day and age. People who refuse to use technology are being stubborn to say the least. In my Mass Media and Society class, we have talked about how people who do not use technology (social media in particular) are seemingly without an identity. I think that this is a sad truth about our society today.
